oh_marvelous is for threading, including both scenes and communication posts.
oh_marvelousooc is for out of character conversation and plot posts.
oh_whatif is the sandbox where we can continue to play in the Alternate Universes our characters enter by exploring wormholes in game. It can be used to play out any scenarios or memes that have no bearing on the main game, or to develop plots that can be worked into the game later. You may make a journal exclusively for the what_if if you want more icon space (these journals begin with if_, so keep that in mind when creating one).
ohmarvelousnpc can be used by any player in the game. This will be useful for anyone who needs a character or monster NPC-ed and another player wants to help out. Just make an ooc post asking for volunteers whenever you think you'll need an NPC. Please do not use the NPC unless a thread is open or it is requested, so that we don't crash anyone's planned threads. Players can upload relevant icons they need to use. Ask the mod for the password.
After a character is accepted, please post a "Character Information" page into your character journal to be linked to the Taken Characters page and used as a reference for you and other players. It should follow this format:
History: Your character's before-game history.
Powers: Your character's powers and abilities.
In Game: A continuation of your "history" as your character develops in game. This will be updated with a few sentences every few months (after mod reminders) with anything you feel that someone else would need to know has happened to your character.
Plots: Keep track of your planned plots here so that you have a reminder and can regularly assess how far along you are with character development.
This game is written in story book format (third person, past tense). When writing scenes, try tagging at least a short paragraph to give your writing partner something to work with, or more if you want to.
We play by threading (replying to character entries in the oh_marvelous community). Threading can occur between multiple characters if you’d like (though to make this process easier, you might want to set a tagging order of characters involved). Stand alone posts are permissible, but the point of a game is to interact with other players, so try to only do those when absolutely necessary.
There are two types of posts players can make in the game community. One is a scene post, and the other is a communications post. Communication posts must include who it is to, and what medium is being used (text, phone, social media, etc). Scene threads will be posted using the following thread-header format:
Characters: [Who's involved this scene. You may just put OTA (open to anyone) or someone specific, add "Multiple Threads" if you want replies from multiple characters.]
Setting: [When and where the scene is occurring.]
Content: [Worksafe? Adult content? Language?]
Summary: [A short summary of the scene.]
To allow ample time for new posts and tagging, Oh Marvelous runs on a 3:1 time span. Three days of real time equal one day of game time. At the start of each new "day" the mod will post "the date" along with information about any wormhole events happening in the city and the day's weather.
Time passes in game so that we can keep track of holidays, seasons, and weather that might affect our characters' lives. However, as in comics, aging is unnecessary unless relevant to a plot. They can have birthdays in game, but specifying their age is at the players discretion.
Please add tags to all your entries. Include the date (month/year), characters, location, affiliation, and !incomplete and, later, !complete when you finish up your thread. The tag list in the main community is updated regularly.
There are three types of communications tags, comm: text, comm: video, and comm: voice. Text entries are comprised of text messages, email, chat services, and social media. Videos are anything involving a video chat. Voice is phone calls and voice chats.
Monsters: Wormholes are always pouring out weird monsters from other dimensions and it's up to you if you want to use these in threads. Although the "news reports" will mention monster saturation in various areas of the city, they're not mod controlled and you can pretty much do as you please with the monsters so long as they're more manageable easy-to-kill monsters (as opposed to destroying the city Godzilla types). Each wormhole will drop a handful of monsters. The smaller the monster the more there likely are, while larger monsters usually appear in groups of three to four. The threat scale for monsters in on a 5 point scale. Levels 1 and 2 can be fought by your average hero, while 3-4 would probably require heavy firepower or super-powers. A level 5 is akin to an especially dangerous godzilla-like monster destroying things in the city and will usually become a Minor Event.
Minor Events: Minor events are contained "events" that effect only small sections of the city. For example if a giant godzillaesque monster knocked down buildings in Brooklyn, then the mod would likely control the monster for threading purposes. Or, say, a weird device fell out of a wormhole in Queens and now everyone in these few blocks are cats for a day or two.
These are events that you have the choice of involving your character in, but they do remember them if they get involved. They can also be used to further personal character plots. The minor events are going to be less in-depth than the alternate universes we explore, because it would be too complicated for our characters to suddenly have whole other histories they're supposed to remember.
Minor events are usually just weird little cracky things that are fun to play but don't last long, and when they're over our characters are can carry on without any lasting disruption to their lives/personal plots. These will be created as a single mod post, with multi-threads. Make suggestions for them in the dropbox!
-AUs: The largest wormholes allow a few characters to actually go in to explore it for various reasons, whether it be as A.R.M.O.R. teams, random people getting sucked in and needing to be rescued, or heroes just wanting to explore for themselves. These AU wormholes are an opportunity to bring what_if scenarios into the game proper.
A few characters from the OM-Earth will go into an alternate universe where we can also play that universe's version of our characters (these are not the OM-verse characters, they're copies, you can still do whatever you want with all your OM characters in NYC while others are exploring AUs).
AU adventures will be plotted ahead of time as we do with any what_if, and they can open us up to continue playing in them later in the actual what_if comm. In doing this, we can introduce to more in-depth what_if sandboxy scenarios into the game without worrying about totally disrupting our character's lives and plots.
